Education and Places of Work
Alfred Frank was born as the son of the merchant Hermann Frank and his wife Fridoline, née Oppenheimer, on 27 July 1882. He studied medicine in Munich and received his licence to practise medicine in 1908.
Frank settled as a specialist in gastrointestinal and metabolic diseases in Berlin in 1912.
After his licence to practise medicine was revoked on 30 September 1938, he was registered as a “Krankenbehandler” (Nazi terminology for Jewish doctor permitted to treat Jewish patients only) in Berlin from 1 October 1938 and continued to practise until the beginning of 1943.
Alfred Frank was arrested during the November pogrom of 1938 and imprisoned at Sachsenhausen concentration camp until 21 December 1938.
Deportation to Auschwitz in 1943
Dr. Alfred Frank was deported from Berlin to Auschwitz on the 36th Eastern Transport on 12 March 1943 and murdered at the age of 61.
Bad Dürkheim installed a memorial plaque in 2010, commemorating the Jewish inhabitants of the town, who had been killed during the Holocaust, among them, Dr. Alfred Frank.
